If you are ever in Sydney, you should definitely check out Manly. One of Sydney’s greatest beaches and incredible markets if you’re lucky enough to stumble upon them.
Not only that, they also have beautiful local cafes which are the heart of the suburb.
Fika Swedish Kitchen is a local-family friendly cafe (also open for dinner) and of course, has Swedish food as well as treats from Sweden!
Fika also serves up Campos Coffee. Extremely well made by the barista!! I had two flat whites. One before Scuba diving and another after. Coffee-addict here.
Crispbread with Mashed egg, kalles caviar Fika Swedish Kitchen $8
This crispbread took about 15 minutes to come to the table and I was wondering, how hard it was to mash eggs and squirt caviar over bread. But looking closely, I saw how much care the chef took to cut up the egg into perfectly equal sized pieces. I enjoyed it even more.
I was warned that the caviar was salty and boy, it was. If you love your salt, this is for you. The mashed egg takes away the saltiness slightly but I still did guzzle a whole bottle of water. It’s extremely rich too, but it is still delicious !
I can’t agree more with what that board says. For those who can’t really see it,
“Fika is a Swedish word that translates as ‘taking a break for coffee and a bite to eat’. But really it’s much more than that. It’s a moment to relax, to catch up with your family and to laugh with your friends. It’s making up for lost time, or part of your daily ritual. A cosy escape, or a refreshing pause. It’s the time between meals, the place between destinations. There’s always time for Fika.
Our kitchen is your kitchen, so make yourself at home.”

Cinnamon bun $5 : Fika Swedish Kitchen
I may have gotten carried away with talking with a local, so when I ate the cinnamon bun, it was cold but breaking it apart, there is a generous dusting of cinnamon inside and remember those icing sprinkles? Yep, they’re on top. Winner.
They also have a Grandma Elly’s Apple Pie, Raspberry & Rhubarb Crumble and Kladdkaka (chocolate cake) which I am desperate to try.
Hand cut chips, hoki fish fillet from NZ and sweet potato crisps. $13.
So after my “afternoon” treat I went to get fish and chips. What’s wrong with you Alice?
Sitting by Manly Beach, I couldn’t ask for more.
