Finally. Located in Ashfield, Excelsior Jones is the new coffee shop on the block. White-walled rooms with matching chairs and copper lamps are filled with locals and crazy foodie people like me.
They had a beautiful creamy coffee that was sweet and delicate for only $3.50
Delicate and indulgent dishes fill the menu and boy, do I want to try every single thing on it.
Smoked Salmon Hash with poached egg, fried buckwheat
The poached egg, potatoes, flaky salmon and crispy buckwheat created a perfect balanced flavour and texture to create one of Excelsior Jone’s famous dishes. Salty and heavy, this is a crowd-pleaser no doubt.
Pearl cous cous with zucchini, roasted capsicum and tomatoes with Chicken.
Light and delicate, the pearl cous cous created a pop in the mouth. Smooth and chewy with a crispy outside. The dressing was tangy, refreshing and well seasoned. The caramelisation of the chicken added a strong and juicy depth of flavour that creates a dish worth travelling an hour for.
The selection of pastries in the class counter is also astounding and mouth-watering.
Cronuts, madeleines, muffins, cakes, you name it.
The lemon buttercake was delightfully tart and zingy with lemon curd seeping out from the middle.
Ambience: 8/10 – Family friendly and busy
I’ve got more reviews coming up.
